Estate Planning Grant Program

About:

The Estate Planning Grant Program is established by the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation to promote financial security, personal dignity, and responsible asset management by assisting Colorado State Patrol employees with the legal costs of drafting foundational estate planning documents. This program provides limited, one-time financial support to help ensure that individuals have access to professionally prepared estate plans. This Grant must be applied for and you must be accepted in advance of any reimbursement being made to you.

Establishing a Will or Trust is a critical step in responsible financial and personal planning. These legal instruments ensure that an individual’s wishes are clearly documented and carried out after their death. Without a valid estate plan, state laws will determine how assets are distributed, which may not align with the individual’s intentions and can create unnecessary stress and conflict among surviving family members.

A Will allows individuals to designate beneficiaries, name guardians for minor children, and appoint an executor to manage the estate. A Trust, in addition to directing asset distribution, can provide enhanced privacy, reduce probate complexities, and allow for more structured management of assets over time.

Full-time, regular employees (not Contract, part-time or Temporary) CSP Employees may apply for a one-time grant to help offset legal expenses associated with the preparation of either:

  • A Last Will and Testament, up to $1,000, or

  • A Revocable Living Trust (which includes a Will), up to $2,000

Funds are disbursed solely for the purpose of drafting new (first time and initial) estate planning documents by a qualified legal professional.

  • This grant is a one-time award per individual and may not be renewed or reissued.

  • The program does not cover any future legal expenses, including but not limited to amendments, restatements, codicils, updates, or disputes related to an existing Will or Trust.

  • As program funding is limited to annually budgeted resources, employee eligibility for reimbursement of documented legal fees directly associated with the initial preparation of the Will or Trust, can only be guaranteed after previously notifying the Foundation of the employee’s intent to seek a grant through this program, and only after receiving confirmation from the Foundation that funding is available.

  • AFTER you have applied for and received confirmation from CSPFF that your planning effort will be reimbursed, Legacy Law Group Colorado, PLLC will confirm with us that your effort has been completed and they will provide us with a copy of your out-of-pocket and pre-PAID invoice. We will issue you a check in the amount of your out-of-pocket fees, consistent with the above limits, and mailed to the address contained within your law firm’s invoice.

Please reach out to john@cspff.net with any questions and to apply for the grant!
