Technician Lyle F. Wohlers was patrolling I-70 East of Georgetown, Colorado, on November 4, 1992, when he stopped a vehicle with two juvinile occupants aboard. After calling for assistance, Technician Wohlers was shot in the head by one of the juveniles. He lost his battle for life on November 5, 1992. The two juviniles were captured and convicted of the crime.

Julie was born and raised in Sterling, Colorado. Before retiring in 1998, her thirty year professional career included real estate office and property managment. She was the office manager in a CPA firm, overseeing bookkeeping/payroll/accounts receivable/payable. She spent 14 years as a Recreation manager, election and budget officer for a Colorado Special Government Parks and Recreation District. Julie has one son and two grandsons.

Since Lyle's death, Julie has continued to live in Dumont Colorado during the summer months, living in the house she and Lyle shared before his death. She is still active in her community and with the Colorado State Patrol. In the winter she travels to Tucson to avoid the cold and play a lot of golf.
